What we don't
collect about you.

Honest Decibel is built to be the simplest answer to a privacy question: nothing leaves your phone. This page documents that, in plain language and in a form Apple App Review can verify.

What we collect

Nothing. Honest Decibel has no backend, no analytics SDK, no third-party trackers, no advertising identifiers, and no crash reporters. We don't run servers that could collect data about you because we don't run any servers at all.

What the microphone does

The microphone is accessed only while you have actively tapped Start to measure sound. The audio buffer is processed on-device in real time to compute a decibel reading and immediately discarded. We do not record audio to disk. We do not transmit audio off the device. The microphone stops the moment the app moves to the background, you tap Stop, or you leave the app.

What stays on your device

Your settings (calibration offset, weighting choice, dark mode, haptics, peak hold) live in your iPhone's local preferences storage. Your purchase status is verified by Apple's StoreKit and cached locally. None of this leaves your device.

Children's privacy

Honest Decibel is appropriate for all ages. Because we collect nothing, we cannot collect data from children.

Third parties

The only third party involved is Apple itself, for purchase processing through the App Store. Apple's privacy practices are governed by Apple, not by us. We never share data with anyone because we don't have any data to share.

Changes

If we ever change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. The substance is unlikely to change because the app is built around not collecting anything in the first place.
