Honest Tan
UV planning checklist

Plan the sun before the sun plans your day.

If you are going to be outside for a beach day, practice, patio shift, hike, tournament, or festival, do not guess from temperature. Read the hourly UV curve, choose the least-bad window, set reminders, and keep a hard stop.

Educational, not medical advice

This checklist explains UV-index planning. It does not tell you how long your skin can safely be in the sun, does not replace sunscreen instructions, and is not dermatology advice. Medication, skin history, altitude, reflection, cloud breaks, and personal risk can change what is safe for you.

Answer first

The 5-minute UV checklist.

  1. Check the hourly UV index, not only the daily high. A single daily number hides whether the peak is short, long, early, or late.
  2. Move flexible outdoor time away from the peak. The hours around solar noon are usually strongest. Earlier or later windows can be lower intensity.
  3. Do not treat clouds or cool air as safety. Temperature is not UV. Thin clouds, water, snow, sand, altitude, and reflection can still leave meaningful exposure.
  4. Decide shade breaks before you leave. Pick when you will step out, not just where you will go.
  5. Set flip, reapply, and stop reminders. The timer should end the session. It should not gamify staying outside.
