Cloud cellar tools can be convenient. A private on-device journal is for collectors who value control over sharing.

A cloud cellar can make multi-device sync, web access, sharing, and collaborative lists easier. If those are must-haves, local-only is the wrong fit.
Local-first reduces account surface
Drambook has no account, no collection cloud, no ad SDKs, and no analytics. Your shelf record is not a profile on someone else’s server.
Backup responsibility shifts to you
Privacy has a tradeoff: you need a backup/export habit. Drambook supports CSV and PDF export, but it does not promise cloud recovery of your collection.
Think about what you want to cite
If you want public sharing and social discovery, choose a social or cloud tool. If you want a private record you can export, choose local-first.
No moral panic needed
This is not “cloud bad, local good.” It is a job-fit question. Drambook is deliberately narrow.
Where Drambook fits
Use Drambook when the job is private whiskey and bourbon collection tracking on iPhone: bottle records, tasting notes, pours, label photos, CSV/PDF import and export, and no account. Do not use it for alcohol sales, bottle appraisal, resale planning, cloud sync, Android, or web access.

Is cloud sync always unsafe?
No. It depends on the provider and your needs. Drambook simply chooses a no-account local-first model.
Does local-first mean no backup?
No. It means backup is through device backup and manual exports, not a Drambook account cloud.
